After considering all that has been said, written, not said and not written, it is time to be realistic and come to a conclusion about the future of Lake Chapala Hospice A.C.
It certainly was an admirable initiative, and all the efforts that have been put into it were done with the best of intentions of all involved. Nevertheless we cannot deny that there has been very limited support from both the community and the medical establishment, and with the latest developments within the Lake Chapala Hospice A.C. Board, the organization itself entered an end-of-life stage with no sufficient life-support available anymore.

This means that the legal existence of "Lake Chapala Hospice A.C." will be ended as soon as possible. The Hospice Team as an independent team of professionals will continue its work, but most likely with an adjusted goal so that all needs for end-of-life care are serviced, instead of solely patients in need of hospice care.

Honestly I have to admit it is a very saddening task to write this email message, but it has been too often a roller-coaster, and the personal toll it has taken on me became too high.

What remains is a heartfelt thank you to all who gave their best, their time and their dedication to this worthy cause. Maybe in the future, with a new generation of patients, some people with the guts may step up to the plate to say: “Let’s try it again.”  I truly hope so.

The first steps for the dissolution of A.C. have been taken already, and all of the legal, fiscal and financial obligations of the Lake Chapala Hospice A.C. will be arranged appropriately
            and according to the law.

For all the positive experiences that "Lake Chapala Hospice" has given me, I will remain sincerely thankful.

            Kind regards,

            Erik Slebos
